Echinococcus granulosus (‘pig strain’, G6/7) in Southwestern Lithuania

چکیده
Material and methods During 2005-2006, post slaughter examination and morphological identification of cysts from pigs from small family farms (n=612) and industrial farms (n=73) was performed. Dog fecal samples (n=240) were collected in 12 villages and microscopically examined by egg flotation/sieving (F/Si) [3] and modified McMaster methods [4]). For the genetic identification of E. granulosus to species/strain level, PCR was performed with DNA from typical hydatid cysts from pigs (n=2), morphologically unidentifiable lesions from pigs (n=3), nonfertile cysts from cattle (n=3) and taeniid eggs from dog faecal samples (n=34) [5]. Risk factors for cystic echinococcosis were evaluated by a questionnaire.

Echinococcosis in pigs and intestinal infection with Echinococcus spp. in dogs in southwestern Lithuania.
Cystic echinococcosis is a major emerging zoonosis in many Eastern European and Asian countries. Post slaughter examinations of 684 pig livers in Lithuania revealed significantly higher numbers of Echinococcus granulosus infections in animals from family farms (13.2%; 95% CI 10.7-16.2) as compared with those from industrial farms (4.1%; 95% CI 0.8-11.5). The prevalence was also significantly hi...
متن کاملMolecular Characterization of Echinococcus granulosus Cysts in North Indian Patients: Identification of G1, G3, G5 and G6 Genotypes
BACKGROUND Cystic echinococcosis (CE) caused by the Echinococcus granulosus, is a major public health problem worldwide, including India. The different genotypes of E. granulosus responsible for human hydatidosis have been reported from endemic areas throughout the world. However, the genetic characterization of E. granulosus infecting the human population in India is lacking. The aim of study ...
متن کاملCystic Echinococcoses in Mongolia: Molecular Identification, Serology and Risk Factors
BACKGROUND Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a globally distributed cestode zoonosis that causes hepatic cysts. Although Echinococcus granulosus sensu stricto (s.s.) is the major causative agent of CE worldwide, recent molecular epidemiological studies have revealed that E. canadensis is common in countries where camels are present. One such country is Mongolia. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS For...
متن کاملEchinococcus granulosus genotypes in livestock of Iran indicating high frequency of G1 genotype in camels.
In this study, 112 Echinococcus granulosus isolates from different livestock of Iran were genotyped by PCR amplification of ribosomal DNA-internal transcribed spacer 1 (rDNA-ITS1) region followed by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) with the enzyme RsaI. The possibility of intra-genotype variation was also investigated using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. Isol...

Echinococcosis is cosmopolitan zoonosis caused by adult or larval stages of tapeworrns belonging to the genus Echinococcus Rudolphi, 1 80 1 . Within the genus Echinococcus four species are presently recog nised, namely Echinococcus granulosus, E. multiloc ularis, E. oligarthrus and E. vogeli, and taxonomic revision of the genus is probably needed (Thompson RCA, McManus DC, 2002, Trends Parasi...
